Manchester-based giant and record winning club Manchester United have sealed a sponsorship deal. The team has been under principal shirt sponsorship with American giant car makers Chevrolet. For the last seven years, Chevrolet has seen United grow globally. The American giant company has as well gone through tremendous growth within the period.
The deal between United and TeamViewer now ends speculation over United’s shirt sponsorship. For the past two years, there has been speculation on the change of sponsorship. Dominating the frontline of the speculation, the Chinese Haier Group were highly linked with a lucrative deal. That speculation however died a natural death as Chevrolet stretched their muscles by pumping more funds to the club.
TeamViewer’s sponsorship deal
TeamViewer’s logo with the deal in place is set to appear on United’s jersey from next season. The partnership with the club will then run for the next five years. The £235m shirt sponsorship according to Manchester United is the greatest sponsorship record in the history of the premier league.
The German giant company becomes the sixth principal partner of Manchester United. In the history of the club’s sponsorship, the club has received sponsorship from Sharp, Vodafone, AIG, AON and Chevrolet. TeamViewer however, becomes the first company European owned company outside the United Kingdom to sponsor Manchester United.
Previous companies have had foreign ownership starting with Sharp which is Japan-based. Both AIG and Chevrolet are all USA based companies. It’s only Vodafone and AON that are UK based companies to have ever sponsored the club.
After their tenure came to an end in 2014 as principal partners of Manchester United, AON have remained as training partner ever since. This is unlike the previous sponsors who have since exited the club.
Manchester United are understandably in a search of a new training sponsor. This is occasioned by the near ending sponsorship deal they have with AON. With a good brand reputation, the club can only hope to find a better sponsor as their training partner. That will see the club rename their training ground at Carrington Centre to the name of the next sponsor.
As they balance between getting a training partner, the club is as well to replace Chevrolet as their automobile partners. It will therefore as well interesting to see who the club brings on board as their automobile partners for the coming season.
Premier league just like any other top league in Europe is currently in a financial turmoil. With COVID-19 effects still glaring globally, many plans of clubs and leagues have been highly affected. Revenue in clubs has really gone down for the past one and half a year.
TeamViewer’s sponsorship, therefore, comes at the right time for Manchester United. As teams are struggling financially, there are high hopes that United will be able to get on foot with the sponsorship in place.
